Novant claims Aetna has released data to the public which “incorrectly indicates the health system’s costs to provide care in the Charlotte market area are higher than state and national averages,” according to a Novant Health press release.

In the complaint, Novant, parent company of Presbyterian Hospitals, claims Aetna is trying to gain leverage in contract negotiations through the release of information to physicians, patients and the press.

The two-year contract between Novant and Aetna expires July 1.
