Mercy Medical Center West Lakes, a new $100 million, 82-bed hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, has opened and treated its first patients, according to a report by the Des Moines Register.
West Lakes will be the first new hospital to open in Des Moines in over 40 years, and will be the only hospital in Des Moines for a “few weeks,” following the closure of the 103- year old Mercy Capitol Hospital, according to the report. In October, a new competing facility, Methodist West Hospital, is expected to open.
