New bill requires Illinois insurers to cover 3D mammograms

Illinois insurance companies will have to provide coverage for 3D mammograms after Gov. Bruce Rauner signed the requirement into law Wednesday, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Under Senate Bill 466, no specific rate is listed that insurers must pay toward 3D mammograms, but they are required to cover use of the technology.

Park Ridge, Ill.-based Advocate Lutheran General Hospital offers the most 3D mammograms in the state, with more than 62,000 patients screened overall, according to the report.
