The bills include provisions that will protect nurses who report unsafe practices, strengthen health authorities’ power for investigating major patient problems and mandate annual inspection of outpatient surgical centers.
The state may also require surgical centers to obtain a permit to provide sedation, which could cost facilities thousands of dollars, according to the report.
The bills are a response to a hepatitis C outbreak resulting from poor injection practices at two, now-closed outpatient facilities in Las Vegas.
