In the days leading up to Super Bowl Sunday, the hospital will increase staff levels in preparation for an uptick in patients. In addition, the hospital’s plan asks for on-call staff to be housed at the hospital.
Normally, ambulances start at HCMC and are dispatched to emergency situations accordingly. However, ambulances will be located at different locations throughout the city on Super Bowl Sunday. Helicopters will still be able to land and take off from the medical center.
“There’s been a tremendous amount of time and hours and commitment to that planning,” Mark Lappe, Emergency Manager at HCMC, told CBS Minnesota. “Being ready means that we have the resources and the personnel and supplies to be able to surge up in case we have a large number of patients that are suddenly showing up at our door whether it’s a mass-casualty incident of some sort … or a shooting.”
