Mercy (Chesterfield, Mo.). The Sisters of Mercy founded Mercy health system in 1986, with a history that dates back more than 200 years to when Catherine McAuley opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, Ireland. The system includes 43 acute care and specialty hospitals, more than 700 physician practices and outpatient facilities, and upward of 2,000 Mercy Clinic physicians. In February, the health system entered into a definitive agreement to affiliate with St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis, which added 176 physicians and nearly 670 medical staff members to the system. Also this year, Truven Health Analytics named Mercy one of the 15 Top Health Systems in the nation.
