The program, called Health Insurance 101, will target Somali and African-American policyholders of Medica’s Medical Assistance and MinnesotaCare health plans. Outreach efforts will take place in west and north Minneapolis neighborhoods. Both Medica and Briva are based in Minneapolis.

Under the program, six in-person sessions will be offered in a location, format and language familiar to policyholders. Members can attend any session. The sessions will address preventive care, who to contact when finding a provider and use of emergency departments.

The first session is Oct. 15.
