Gov. Jindal passed the state budget, reducing the state funding for hospitals in several regions by more than $135 million, according to The Advertiser. The letter included support from Lafayette (La.) General Health System CEO David Callecod and Lafayette, La.-based University Hospital and Clinics CEO Jared Stark. UHC was absorbed by LGHS in 2013 after the state cut funding from charity hospitals, according to the report.
The letter said a reduction in funding would damage training and partnerships between hospitals, which have encouraged the transition to EHRs and reduced emergency department wait times.
“We, as an Alliance, remain committed to our primary objective of delivering quality healthcare and first class medical education to the citizens of our State and look forward to engaging with you and your senior staff to move quickly to a plan to stabilize our future funding needs and the ability to continue to deliver quality health care, which can be accessed by Louisiana residents,” the letter read. “We respectfully request you reconsider this decision that will jeopardize your greatest accomplishment.”
