Lifespan Appoints Physician to Lead Both of its Providence, R.I., Hospitals

Timothy J. Babineau, MD, president of 719-bed Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, R.I., will also become president of nearby 247-bed Miriam Hospital, according to the Providence Journal.

The move is part of plans by the hospitals’ corporate parent, Lifespan, to merge the two into a single hospital in two campuses four miles apart.

Kathleen C. Hittner, MD, president of Miriam Hospital for nine years, will step aside to take a position at Lifespan.
