Legislation seeks to streamline Medicare Advantage prior authorization process

A new piece of bipartisan legislation introduced in the Senate is looking to revamp the prior authorization process for Medicare Advantage beneficiaries.

The legislation, dubbed the Improving Seniors’ Timely Access to Care Act of 2021, aims to decrease the time it takes for older adults to access care, according to an Oct. 20 news release

Specifically, the act would create a streamlined digital authentication process, create national clinical documentation standards, promote real-time decisions for routine procedures and create more communication transparency. 

The legislation is supported by over 320 organizations.
