Kansas Rep. Jason Probst, D-Hutchinson, testified before the state’s House Insurance Committee Feb. 11 on the legislation. He said if the bill moves forward, “the state-level protections that exist will be extended across all types of health insurance, creating consistency and predictability in Kansas statute for those residents who have pre-existing conditions,” according to the publication.
The bill has 17 Democratic co-sponsors. Ken Johnson, president and CEO of Hutchinson (Kan.) Regional Healthcare System, also provided a written testimony for the bill.
America’s Health Insurance Plans, the national trade group for health plans, testified against the bill. A representative from AHIP said the bill is premature, as the ACA is still in court.
