The health system considered a plot of land in the Scripps Ranch community of San Diego but concluded the Kearny Mesa property will allow for a shorter construction timeline and lower construction costs, according to the report. Kaiser Permanente officials would not provide a figure for how much the new hospital will cost. They hope to open the facility by 2018.
