In the News: New Jersey Acute-Care Hospital Breaks Ground

A new hospital in Plainsboro, N.J., has broken ground and is scheduled to open in 2011, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

The $441 million, 238-bed hospital will be called the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro and will be the first new acute care hospital to open since 2004.

New Jersey hospitals have seen significant struggles recently, with five acute-care hospitals closing this year alone and about half of the remaining 74 hospitals operating in the red, according to the story.

The 636,000-square-foot hospital was designed by RMJM Hillier and Hellmuth, Obata & Kasabaum.
