The leaders claim these Boston hospitals, which include Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital, receive substantially higher rates than other hospitals despite no difference in care.

Citing private insurance data, The Globe reported that these institutions receive payments from 15 percent to 60 percent higher than competing organizations.

State officials and hospital executives claim that such high reimbursement hurts competition and drives up insurance rates for residents, according to the story.
