Humana notifies members of 2018 security breach

Humana recently mailed data breach notification letters to 684 members informing them that a hacker had accessed a vendor’s systems as early as May 2018.

The vendor, Bankers Life, contracts with Humana to offer health insurance policies in select states. On Oct. 25, the company told Humana it discovered an unauthorized user had gained access to some employees’ system credentials and may have viewed Humana members’ protected health information between May 30 and Sept., 13, 2018.

An investigation t determined Humana applicants’ names, addresses, dates of birth, last four digits of Social Security numbers and limited health insurance policy information had been compromised.

Bankers Life is offering potentially affected individuals one year of identity repair and credit monitoring services as a precaution.
