At least 18 hospitals have asked the Virginia Department of Transportation to be identified on the blue “H” signs on Virginia highways, according to a report by Fredericksburg.com.

The familiar “H” signs, also used in other parts of the country, have had to be anonymous in Virginia since 2004, although 16 hospitals were grandfathered in.

The hospitals complain it is difficult for motorists to know which hospital is meant when two hospitals are close together.
