The hospital filed an application with the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board to close its inpatient rehabilitation unit. In the application, the hospital said inpatient rehabilitation admissions have declined 34 percent since 2013.
Paul Berrini, vice president of strategy at Chicago-based Sinai Health System, which owns Holy Cross Hospital, told the Chicago Tribune the decision to discontinue services was not intended as a cost saving measure. Instead, “the primary driver was what does our community need.”
If the application is approved, patients needing inpatient rehabilitation services would go to Sinai Health System’s Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital, also in Chicago.
