HHS Names California Governor’s Health Advisor as New Regional Director

Herb Schultz has been named director for HHS Region IX, which oversees California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam and other U.S. possessions in the Pacific, according to a report by the San Francisco Business Times.

Mr. Schultz was senior health policy adviser to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger during the state’s debate on comprehensive statewide health reform from 2006-2008. From 2005-2006, he was vice president of government programs for McKesson Health Solutions in San Francisco.

Mr. Schultz succeeds Tom Lorentzen, a Republican appointee who left after President Obama took office in January 2009.
