George H.W. Bush discharged from Houston Methodist

After being taken to Houston Methodist Hospital Jan. 14 for shortness of breath, former President George H.W. Bush was discharged from the hospital Monday, a family spokesman announced on Twitter.

Mr. Bush was diagnosed with pneumonia and was admitted to the intensive care unit Jan. 18. After he was extubated, he worked with physical therapists to regain strength.

“He is thankful for the many prayers and kind messages he received during his stay, as well as the world-class care that both his doctors and nurses provided,” the statement reads.

For a time, both the former president and his wife Barbara were being treated at Houston Methodist — Mrs. Bush was admitted to the hospital Jan. 18 and discharged Jan. 23 after recovering from bronchitis.

Mr. Bush is 92 years old and has a form of Parkinson’s disease. Mrs. Bush is 91.
