Funding for Georgia Trauma Care Hospitals Cut in Half

State funding for Georgia trauma care hospitals has been cut by more than half, to $23 million, according to a report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Advocates for the hospitals say that the funding is far less than the estimated $80 million the state’s 15 trauma hospitals need to expand services to underserved areas.

According to the report, nearly 1 million Georgians live more than 50 miles from a trauma care center, and approximately 700 Georgians die annually because of inadequate trauma care.
