Former Centene exec to head Altarum

Former Centene executive Michael Monson has been tapped to be CEO and president of healthcare consulting organization Altarum, according to a June 25 news release.

Mr. Monson will oversee Altarum’s iniatives on health equity and public health technology, as well as its Medicaid, Medicare and Exchange programs.

At Centene, Mr. Monson managed the payer’s Medicaid and Complex Care product lines while leading the Centene Center for Health Transformation, a collaboration with academic researchers to improve care quality.

“Michael is a proven leader who has achieved organizational transformation at scale in the Medicaid and Medicare space, but he’s also driven by a principled commitment to address disparities and inequities in health care and health outcomes,” Altarum board of trustees Chair Guy Fish, MD, said in the statement.

“Through its unique focus on advancing policy through practice, Altarum is poised to have an outsized impact on health equity and public health infrastructure— two areas of critical focus as the nation emerges from the global health crisis,” Mr. Monson said in the statement.
