Federal Stimulus Funding, Set to Run Out, Supported Hospitals Facing Flood of Uninsured Patients

Federal stimulus funding helped bolster hospitals flooded nationwide with uninsured Americans who lost their jobs in the recession, according to a study by the Center for Studying Health System Change.

The report found that without stimulus funds, many Americans would have lost Medicaid coverage when states reduced spending.

It warned that state and local budgets are unlikely to recover before increased stimulus funding for the Federal Medical Assistance Percentage and Disproportionate Share Hospitals runs out.
