Mr. Lopes will be leading public markets and government relations as an executive vice president, according to the Boston Business Journal. He previously served the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center for 27 years.

The executive is no stranger to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, having served on the insurer’s board of directors for four years.

“We’ve been doing a lot of work around health equity and trying to close the gap that exists in those areas,” Mr. Lopes said to the Boston Business Journal. “I’m hoping I can bring that perspective to [Blue Cross Blue Shield] as well. They’ve been doing great work in this area, and I can only complement the work they’ve already been doing.”

Mr. Lopes’ move is effective Nov. 1.
