The Justice Department’s antitrust division asked Judge Richard Leon to amend his planned review of the government’s proposed settlement to resolve antitrust concerns related to Aetna’s integration with CVS, according to GCR.
On May 13, Mr. Leon ordered CVS and Aetna to attend up to three days of hearings on the antitrust settlement. The hearings are scheduled to begin June 3.
While the Justice Department approved the CVS-Aetna deal in October 2018 and the transaction closed in November of the same year, Mr. Leon is tasked with approving the department’s consent decree on the merger. This process is usually completed without pushback, but Mr. Leon was not as convinced the department’s agreement with the company alleviated antitrust concerns.
