Ms. Zuckerman, who has been senior vice president and chief business development officer, will be responsible for all hospital operations and numerous corporate functions, such as construction, revenue cycle, laboratory, customer service and certificate of need.

Vanguard Health Systems, which typically takes financially struggling hospitals and turns them into for-profit facilities, announced last week it plans to buy Detroit Medical Center for $417 million and spend $850 million more in improvements over 15 years.
