Seventy-three House Democrats have demanded U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas recuse himself from healthcare reform cases due to his wife’s work for groups opposed to the law, according to a report from The Hill.
Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) wrote Justice Thomas yesterday, asking him to “maintain the integrity of this court and recuse [himself] from any deliberations on the constitutionality of this act,” according to the report. The letter also said members of Congress were surprised by the recent revelations that Justice Thomas has financial ties to leading opposition organizations.
Justice Thomas’ wife, Ginny Thomas, is a Tea Party and conservative activist who advertises herself as a lobbyist for those who want to overturn healthcare reform, according to the report.
