Data analytics segment cinches top funding spot among health IT startups, report finds

Health IT companies raised $2.5 billion in venture capital funding during the first quarter of 2018, up from $1.7 billion during the fourth quarter of 2017, according to a Mercom Capital Group report.

For the report, the global communications and research firm analyzed 187 health IT funding deals involving 698 companies and investors during the first quarter of 2018.

Here are the six most-funded health IT segments during the first quarter of 2018, according to Mercom Capital Group.

1. Data analytics: $679 million

2. Clinical decision support: $516 million

3. mHealth apps: $247 million

4. Telemedicine: $178 million

5. Digital health benefits: $160 million

6. EHRs: $146 million
