Health insurance policyholders begged state regulators to deny Anthem’s desired 33.8 percent average rate increase for 2018, labeling it excessive and unaffordable, according to Hartford Courant.

After a large increase this year, Anthem’s request for higher rates in 2018 would lead to a more than 80 percent hike in insurance prices in two years, according to the report.

Anthem’s premium increases would affect about 35,000 insured individuals.

The Connecticut Insurance Commissioner is expected to make decisions regarding the proposed rate increases this summer.
