The bill will fund the addition of more high-revenue-generating beds at the hospital, which is currently considered too small and outdated to be financially successful, according to the report. However, before plans for the expansion plans move forward. the state must secure $100 million in funding from the federal government through a hospital grant.
The project also provides $30 million to create a network of hospitals to collaborate on teaching and research programs with UConn, according to the report.
