Multiple individuals confirmed that the Trump administration will announce Mr. Smith’s appointment “in the near future,” according to Politico’s Dec. 16 eHealth newsletter.

The innovation center develops and tests new healthcare payment and service delivery models for CMS. Under the division, more than 7,000 models are currently being tested by healthcare facilities across the U.S., according to the Nashville Post.

Mr. Smith co-founded palliative care provider Aspire Health in 2013; the company was acquired by Anthem five years later. Mr. Smith also formerly served as chief of staff for the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development.
