The beleaguered federal exchange website officially launched Oct. 1, but a host of technical issues has hindered enrollment and added fuel to the political debate over the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
During the Nov. 19 hearing aimed at identifying the problems with the site, Rep. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) asked Mr. Chao to estimate the percent of the site’s infrastructure that had been completed. After a bit of back and forth, Mr. Chao estimated 60 to 70 percent of the site had been built, and the to-be-built 30 to 40 percent includes the accounting and payment systems that handle the premium subsidies, according to the report.
