Here are three things to know about the alliance.

1. The joint HMO health plans — branded as Scripps Select HMO — will be available for employers with at least 100 employees. The payer-provider alliance puts onus on value-based incentives to improve health outcomes while lowering costs.

“With providers, payers, employers and individuals working together, Scripps and Cigna are building an innovative healthcare model that encourages care coordination to achieve common goals — better health, more affordability and an ideal patient experience,” Chris Van Gorder, president and CEO of Scripps, said in a statement.

2. Plans sold through the alliance cover medical, behavioral health, pharmacy, nurse case management and health coaching services.

3. The HMO plans’ participating California providers include La Jolla-based Scripps Green Hospital, Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas, Scripps Mercy Hospital campuses in Chula Vista and San Diego and Prebys Cardiovascular Institute in La Jolla.

Scripps Clinics and Scripps Coastal Medical Centers, specialty centers, Scripps home health and hospice services and Scripps HealthExpress will also participate. Other contracted providers include Scripps Physicians Medical Group and Mercy Physicians Medical Group.
