The initiative is an extension of Cigna’s Collaborative Care program, which was originally implemented with primary care physician groups in a format similar to accountable care organizations. As part of the program, designated care coordinators from the medical group help patients navigate the care continuum with the help of a Cigna collaborative care associate who will provide information on the patient’s benefits.
Cigna will compensate RCCA with a one-time payment for each chemotherapy patient.
Cigna has been expanding its collaborative care program to specialty practices like RCCA and expects to launch a similar oncology program in Florida soon. The payer plans to implement eight collaborative oncology programs by the end of the year, according to a statement.
