Christiana Care Health System (Wilmington, Del.). Christiana Care is a major system with two main hospital campuses. Its flagship hospital, Christiana Hospital in Newark, is the No. 1 hospital in the state, according to U.S. News & World Report. Christiana Hospital also plays home to the state’s only Level I trauma center — the only center of its kind between Philadelphia and Baltimore.

The 913-bed facility is also No. 24 in the nation for gynecology and No. 33 for diabetes and endocrinology care, according to U.S. News & World Report. Additionally, it is one of 17 U.S. hospitals to earn the Everest Award and ranked as one of the Top 100 Hospitals in the nation by Truven Health Analytics for 2015.

In 2013, Christiana Care opened the state’s only neuro critical care unit at Christiana Hospital, called The Lanny Edelsohn, MD, Neuro Critical Care Unit. The 18-bed NCCU is dedicated to patients with immediate life-threatening problems affecting the brain, spinal cord or peripheral nerves and is expected to treat as many as 650 acute-stroke patients annually. Solidifying its expertise in stroke care, Christiana Hospital is certified as a Comprehensive Stroke Center by the Joint Commission and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association — it is one of fewer than 80 U.S. hospitals to hold that title.
