CEO Douglas Arnold: Focuses on Physician Recruitment to Improve Patient Care at Helen Keller Hospital

Douglas Arnold was named CEO of Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, Ala., in July 2011. Since his appointment, he has focused on continuing the hospital’s tradition and mission of offering quality patient care.

Mr. Arnold’s approach seems to be effective. For the past two years, Helen Keller has received an award for outstanding patient experience. One of the ways Mr. Arnold offers Helen Keller patients premier healthcare is with his focus on recruiting top-notch physicians. Mr. Arnold recently proposed a program for medical students to shadow Helen Keller physicians and/or gain experience in the hospital during summer breaks.

Before serving as Helen Keller Hospital CEO, Mr. Arnold served as a market CEO for Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems’ Arkansas Hospitals, which at the time included four hospitals, 2,000 employees and 400 physicians. While under his leadership, CHS’ Arkansas hospitals experienced outstanding improvement in financial performance.

Prior to his tenure at CHS, Mr. Arnold was employed as the CEO of four hospitals including Midwest Regional Medical Center in Midwest City, Okla.
