California Health Officials Unveil Tool to Compare Surgery Costs

California Health Officials have unveiled an Internet tool to help consumers compare the costs of 28 different procedures at hospitals in the state, according to a report in the Sacramento Business Journal.

The Internet tool provides the average cost of each procedure for patients without insurance. It does not provide information about Medicare or private insurer reimbursements.

Users can also find data on the total number of each procedure performed, charges per day and the average length of stay for each procedure by hospital.

The Internet tool is available at oshpd.ca.gov.
