The majority of layoffs will take place at the payer’s Durham location, but employees at its Fayetteville and Winston-Salem offices will also be affected.

BCBSNC spokesperson April Umminger told CBS North Carolina the decision stemmed from low call volumes. “The stability of our systems has greatly reduced the time it takes to answer and handle calls, and we currently have more customer service professionals than is justified by our customer and business needs,” she said.
