BCBS of North Carolina CEO retires: 4 things to know

Durham, N.C.-based Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina President and CEO Brad Wilson will retire later this year.

Here are four things to know.

1. Mr. Wilson began working at BCBS of North Carolina in 1996. He has served as president and CEO of the payer since 2010.

2. He said “[n]ow is a good time to transition leadership to the next CEO — one who will lead Blue Cross through the next wave of healthcare reform just as I have been fortunate to do for the last seven years.” 

3. Mr. Wilson said he will work with the insurer’s board of trustees to establish a transition timeline.  

4. Under Mr. Wilson’s leadership, BCBS of North Carolina launched value-based initiatives like bundled payments for orthopedic procedures to enhance healthcare quality while reducing costs.
