BCBS Association’s CMO resigns months after CEO announces retirement

The CMO of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association is no longer with the association or the BCBS Institute, a company spokesperson confirmed with Becker’s.

Trent Haywood, MD, became CMO of the association in 2012. In his role, he led the development of medical policy, technology platforms and clinical programs for the association’s federation of 36 independent health plans. 

The news comes just two months after BCBS Association President and CEO Scott Serota said he will retire at the end of 2020. He led the association for nearly two decades.

BCBS Association did not offer more details on Dr. Haywood’s exit.
