Inpatient pediatric care has not been provided at Baystate Noble Hospital for about a decade, and Baystate Health has also requested an update to the license for inpatient beds, spokesperson Shelly Hazlett told Becker’s.
The health department has scheduled hearings regarding the ICU shutdown and closure of pediatric beds at Baystate Noble, as well as the proposed closure of the Baystate Wing Hospital ICU.
Ms. Hazlett said no layoffs are planned as a result of the closures.
She added that the changes are primarily due to underutilization, as each of the intensive care units has four patients a day, on average.
