Barnes-Jewish Hospital (St. Louis). As the largest private employer in the St. Louis area, Barnes Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is staffed by 1,800 medical workers. The hospital is home to the Siteman Cancer Center — the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in the state — where multidisciplinary teams deliver high-quality cancer care and work to develop cutting-edge technologies to treat the disease. Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the site of the first simultaneous heart and lung transplant in Missouri.
