Baptist Health South Florida Accomplishes Turnaround From Last Year’s Loss

Baptist Health South Florida posted net income of $131.3 million for the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, up from a $71.7 million loss in the previous fiscal year, according to a report by the South Florida Business Journal.

Most of that gain was from a $1.1 million increase in investments, but the five-hospital system did post a 9 percent increase in net revenue from fiscal 2008.

Baptist’s expenses increased by nearly 10 percent in fiscal 2009 as the system spent more on employee compensation, malpractice claims and insurance, but it also attracted more privately insured patients last year.
