ASA Urges Members to Contact Lawmakers to Sign Anesthesia Payment Letter

The American Society for Anesthesiologists is urging its members to contact their local U.S. Representatives to support a letter to the Department of Health and Human Services to review the accuracy of Medicare’s payments for anesthesia services, according to an ASA news release.

Reps. Gene Green (D-Texas), Sue Myrick (R-N.C.), Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Texas) and Leonard Lance (R-N.J.) have authored a letter to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, urging her to use a provision under the healthcare reform act, known as “Misvalued Codes Under the Physician Fee Schedule,” to review Medicare payments for anesthesia services as possibly misvalued or undervalued, according to the release. The Congressmen are seeking co-signers.
