Under the new requirements, adults ages 19-49 must spend at least 80 hours per month in “qualifying community engagement activities” and report those hours to receive Medicaid coverage. These requirements will go into effect no sooner than Jan. 1, 2020, according to CMS.
Arizona’s program will be the first of the eight states to make federally recognized Native American tribes exempt from this requirement. Other exemptions will include pregnant women, medically frail patients and those actively seeking treatment for substance use disorder.
