AHIP debuts Facebook ad campaign ‘Better Care’ to combat negative perceptions of insurers

America’s Health Insurance Plans, a national trade group for major health insurers, launched a Facebook ad campaign in six states, likely as part of an effort to boost public perception of insurance giants, according to The Nevada Independent.

Here are four things to know about the campaign:

1. In Nevada, a Facebook page called “Better Care for Nevada,” which was created in May, publishes links to articles highlighting programs from major payers such as Humana and Anthem. On its “About” section, the page discloses that it is an initiative of AHIP.

2. AHIP is running similar Facebook pages in Ohio, Iowa, Virginia, Florida and New Hampshire. AHIP executive Kristine Grow told The Nevada Independent the group’s goal for the campaign is to “increase awareness of the good work insurance providers are doing” in those states.

3. The most recent ads feature audio from AHIP President and CEO Matt Eyles, where he lists his goals for the industry, including “making coverage more affordable, simplifying the healthcare experience for consumers and patients, improving quality and outcomes, lowering the price of prescription drugs, solving the opioid crisis, and ensuring access to care and coverage for everyone.”

4. Other posts on the pages relate to new programs offered by insurers, such as those that integrate telehealth and activity trackers, along with short videos with advocacy groups like the Nevada Diabetes Association.
