Advocate Health Care Burglary Compromises Data of 4M Patients

A burglary of one of Downers Grove, Ill.-based Advocate Health Care’s administrative buildings has put the personal health information of more than 4 million Advocate Medical Group patients at risk, according to a Chicago Tribune report.

The system has begun notifying patients potentially affected after four unencrypted computers were stolen from the building, according to the report.

“Nothing leads us to believe the computers were taken for the information they contain, and there is no information to suggest any of that data has been used in an inappropriate way,” said Kelly Jo Golson, senior vice president and chief marketing officer, in the report.
