78% of post-acute care providers not participating in ACOs

Most senior housing and care facilities are not participating in accountable care organizations, according to a recent survey from Lancaster Pollard, a Columbus, Ohio-based financial consulting firm for healthcare, senior living and housing provider organizations.

The survey, which queried 244 executives from senior housing and care facilities, highlighted the following findings on post-acute care ACO participation.

  • Just over three-fourths — 78 percent — of post-acute care providers surveyed are not participating in an ACO.
  • 12 percent have participated in an ACO for less than a year.
  • 9 percent have participated in an ACO for less than a year.
  • 47 percent of respondents not participating in an ACO said it was because one doesn’t exist in their service area.
  • 35 percent of respondents not participating in an ACO said it was because they haven’t been asked to join.
  • 17 percent elected not to participate in an ACO.
  • 1 percent attempted to participate, but did not qualify.
