Five things to know about the startup:
1. EternalHealth was founded in 2019 by CEO and chair Pooja Ika. The payer looks to channel the “wasted” $900 billion in payers’ administrative and operational costs into sustainable, high-quality coverage for members, according to the insurer’s website.
2. The startup also advertises itself as a “woman-owned, women-run, and women-built company” as it stands to increase representation in the industry.
3. Behind its lean approach is artificial intelligence, machine learning and robotic process automation, which it uses to cut down on administrative costs.
4. EternalHealth had already secured its first wave of $10 million seed funding and support from Boston baseball legend David “Big Papi” Ortiz as its brand ambassador, according to a Dec. 30 news release.
5. The company’s board of directors is dotted by healthcare executives familiar with industry startups, including David Henderson, Oscar Health president of insurance, WellCare CMO Robert London and Freedom Health Co-Founder Rudrama Pagidipati, MD.
