4 payer layoffs, hires in February

The following health insurers eliminated or expanded jobs this past month.

1. BCBS of Minnesota to eliminate 50 jobs
Eagan-based Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota said it will cut 50 jobs. Twenty-seven of those employees will be laid off due to BCBS of Minnesota’s decision to outsource its behavioral health management to Phoenix-based Magellan of Arizona.

2. UnitedHealth Group to lay off 119 Optum employees
Minnetonka, Minn.-based UnitedHealth Group said it will lay off 119 workers at its Optum offices in Centennial, Colo. 

3. Humana to lay off about 500 workers
Louisville, Ky.-based Humana will lay off about 500 workers by April 3 as it scales back its home health division’s workforce.

4. UnitedHealthcare to hire more than 250 in NY, Florida
Minnetonka, Minn.-based UnitedHealthcare is looking to hire 110 full-time customer service and claims representatives in Ulster, N.Y., and 160 in Oldsmar, Fla.
