Nine students and one teacher died during the shooting, and at least 12 other individuals were injured, including two law enforcement officers.
Webster, Texas-based Clear Lake Regional Medical Center received seven patients, Texas City-based Mainland Medical Center received two patients and John Sealy Hospital received three patients.
“Our staff [members] are busy taking care of these patients and standing by ready for other patients to come in,” UTMB Health’s Chief Nursing and Patient Care Officer David Marshall, RN, said during a May 18 press conference streamed by CBC News.
A 17-year-old male student suspected to be the gunman is in custody, a law enforcement official told CNN. A second, 18-year-old individual, believed to be the gunman’s accomplice, is also in custody.
The situation marks the eighth school shooting in eight days and the 22nd one to occur in 2018, according to a separate CNN report.
